The Church
is in a fierce spiritual battle for the Imago Dei—the image of God. A child is hidden for nine months in the womb—but also sanctified in the womb by the Lord Jesus Christ, who came as an embryo to identify with humanity so that each tiny child might reflect Christ’s glory to the world. Many women who are contemplating ending their pregnancy, are sitting in our church pews prior to and after their decision to have an abortion.
If abortion and the value of human life is rarely discussed within our local church bodies, the implication then is we end up with people who think the church does not have much to offer in this regard. Silence on this theological issue makes a loud statement of indifference to church members and to the surrounding culture.
